Rights and Responsibilities of this Booktalk Wiki

 

 

Randy Pausch, author of The Last Lecture, states that rights come from community.

In return, a member of that community has certain responsibilities he / or she owes

the community. (p175-176, Hyperion Books, 2008)

Overview

 

Anyone who wishes to join this wiki has the responsibility to uphold the purpose of the wiki, that is, to share in a worthwhile, positive discussion of literature for teens and young adults. In return, the user has the right to have his / her book reviews, literary or literacy discussions, comments, and feedback uploaded to the wiki for global viewing and critiquing.

Purpose   

 

·        To address reading and books for teens and young adults

·        To allow users to sharpen communication skills

·        To practice using wiki and Internet tools

·        To understand ethical use of information literacy, copyright, and Creative Commons

·        To feel a sense of global connectivity, contribution, and pride

·        To be a communitarian, listening to others, giving feedback, and being respectful to others

·        RSS feed is available on the main page which informs others that are interested, as to when new reviews, pages, or comments are added to this wiki.

Audience

·        This wiki is specifically designed for teens and young adults.

·        Members of this community can be teens, young adults or adults (such as parents, teachers, librarians, authors, etc.) interested in promoting teen reading.

·        Please keep material and language on these wiki pages appropriate for all viewers.

 

Becoming a contributing member

·        On the main page, there is a Request to be a Member on the right-hand side of the page via email.

·        Once the wiki administrator grants permission, the user can begin to add or edit the wiki.

 

Ethics and copyright responsibilities

·        Be original in your book review. If adding facts, quotes, graphics, audio or video files created by others, all copyright information must be included.

·        The material on this wiki is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Guidelines. The user may freely share and adapt   material on this wiki, provided he / she uses the same or similar license, giving credit to the original authors. 

·        Plagiarized material is not allowed. Cover music for podcasting is not allowed. Infringement to these rules will result in the writer being removed from the wiki.

·        To give attribution to this wiki, reference the authors of the wiki as a whole, rather than individually, as Contributors to the Booktalk.pbwiki. Please check the relevant page in case the writer includes any other specific attribution requirements.

Instructions for posting  

 

·        To edit wiki, login to your own account. The login link is in the top right-hand corner of the website. Login is by email address and password. The EDIT link is to the right of the VIEW link for all wiki pages. When through editing wiki, click SAVES at the bottom of the edit page. Return to the main homepage (FrontPage) by clicking the book icon in the top left-hand corner or click FRONTPAGE in the top right-hand corner.

·        To write book reviews select the appropriate fiction and the non-fiction genres in the middle of the page. There may a special title being featured. If so, add your review to this page, if this is the book you are reviewing.

·        Give only your first name with your book review and include your state or country in parenthesis by your name.

Moderation

·        The nature of a wiki is extreme trust. With trust comes responsibility. The wiki is moderated. If there is evidence of inappropriate use of the wiki within the history of edits, the writer will no longer be allowed permission to edit the wiki.

·        If you need help, wish to share comments, or have questions, contact the wiki administrator at vanhookc@se-polk.k12.ia.us.
